luxury

What is your definition of luxury?
My definition is a space where I can soak in a tub, get a massage, read a book, sketch, pretty much whatever I want to do.
In front of a fireplace.
Encased in a glass box.
Overlooking Lake Michigan.

Beneath the Surface

Here are a few renderings from a commercial project I did in my second year of graduate school.  The project was designing an office for a marketing firm near the James River in Richmond, VA.  My concept for the project was "beneath the surface."  Ceiling mounted forms were created to both reveal/conceal the raw elements of the ceiling as well as function as light fixtures.  These forms were to represent the moments  where light breaks through the water and we are able to see beneath the surface.

it all began with a cube

As I near graduation I can't help but look back to where it all began.  Here are some images from my first project in grad school.  To date it is the only project I've done with potato stamps, yup, that's right... potato stamps.

murals

Once upon a time I got talked into painting a mural for twin boy's.  What started out as one mural of Captain Underpants years later has turned into multiple murals.  Each time I tell myself that it will be my last time... but somehow I always fall into again.  This past weekend I did another mural for the two sweetest little girls.  Photos will come but for now here are a few murals from the past...

technology?

I thought I didn't like technology.  You know I was one of those everything must always be done by hand people.  Then I started liking the good ol' adobe programs, took Revit, and decided to blend it all together.  I think I might like technology now.  To see the bottom image larger (which really must be done) go to: http://www.arts.vcu.edu/interiordesign/programs/mfa-program/  As a bonus you can read about the really great program I'm in!

wild things

For my latest studio project I worked on transforming a residential home into an art gallery.  I had a ton of fun this time around playing with process work and new drawing styles.  I chose to display work by Maurice Sendak in the space, primarily work from the book Where the Wild Things Are.  It was a JOY learning about his life and ideas and applying them to a project.  I HIGHLY recommend the documentary Tell Them Anything you Want: Maurice Sendak.   The project was definitely one of my favorites.
